The Smoking Duck 2025 is in the books, and what an amazing few days at Quinta Do Lago in Portugal. 3 rounds on fantastic courses with some great golf being played, tales of what might have been and 3 nights of fun, stories, and brilliant camaraderie.
The golf was a tale of two stories termed “Magic or Tragic” as there was either a bit of dutch courage helping some play out of their skin, or it was a case of the DT’s catching up with you. We won’t mention the affectionately known “Fat Boy” last-placed player each day and overall, but rather concentrate on the business end of the leaderboard. Pat Smith and Bob Gamble raced out of the gates on day one with 44 and 40 points respectively. Lewi had a great 38 points to win day 2, but it was all to play for on the final day at Laranjal. Old Man Par is usually a good average score for each day and at close of play it was a tie at the top between Ian De’ath and Pete West who both returned excellent totals of 107 points for the three days with Pete taking home the Smoking Duck for 2025 after countback – congratulations and great playing Pete!
It was a privilege for Lewi and me to be a part of a brilliant few days with our North Hants members who welcomed us in so warmly, making so many great memories. A huge thank you to Martyn Griggs for organising…..36 guys, it takes some doing! To Pete West for supporting Martyn, and to Crawford Scott and Bob Gamble, who took care of settling the F&B each night! And thank you to everyone on the trip for making it a truly fantastic and memorable few days. We are lucky to have the #BestMembers a club pro team can ask for #LoveTheHants
